After breakfast, the tour takes you to the lush crater uplands. The volcanic fertile soils allow crops such as wheat, corn and coffee to be grown. As you descend the Ngorongoro area, you will see the plains of the Serengeti. Passing the Olduvai Gorge which is very dry, it is well known for the work of the famous archaeological couple Leakey’s. In the sixties, the couple discovered the oldest pre-historic human remains and a small museum documents their work. (A visit is optional) A lunch break at the Naabi Gate before starting your game drive of Serengeti .Serengeti comes from the Maasai word Siringitu that means "endless plains". You can see why as the grassland savannah in the south stretches to the horizon and is only interrupted by the so-called Kopjes (inselbergs). These are bizarre rock formations formed by the weathering of granite outcrops. The plains are the perfect hunting grounds for leopards and other big cats. Here you will have a chance to view these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The open roofed vehicles allow uninterrupted views and as the day passes, you will reach the goal for the day - the Seronera Valley in the central Serengeti area.
Day 5: Serengeti
Spend all day watching wildlife in the Serengeti. The areas that you will visit will depend on where the migrating herds. Usually the wildebeest and the zebras during the short rainy season in October and November are moving from the hills in the north, to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season of April, May and June, they return north. With fluctuations of annual rainfall, the exact location of the animals varies from year to year. Your guide however will know the location of the herds and where to get the best views.
Day 6: Serengeti-Ngorongoro
After breakfast, you proceed to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, descending into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater considered as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls the Ngorongoro Crater has the highest wild animal density worldwide. Among the species are lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. You might expect to see the ‘Big Five’ in one day.
